Tracking
Use the map below to follow our expedition! We hope it will work this time*! Please note this is heavily dependent on the signal on the mountain (which is patchy at best), so there may be large gaps in tracking (or may show us sitting in a hotel!). Tracking will only be on while we are actively moving, and may not be on during rest days.
* Technical difficulties 10 years ago on the last expedition meant that the tracking showed the team in a local hotel for 2 weeks! (We climbed the mountain, honest!). We know what went wrong last time and hope it won’t happen again, but will still be at the mercy of cell signals.
The Team
Erik is the lead organiser for the Kilimanjaro 2022 expedition, having climbed Kilimanjaro and Meru as part of Kent Scouts original expedition back in 2012. Erik originally started the expedition as an 10 year summit anniversary climb, but decided to share the opportunity to other members of scouting though his role as an Assistant District Commissioner for Adventurous Activities.
Kelly is a member of Network and the DYC for Bournemouth. After growing up in Sevenoaks and starting her time in the Scouting movement here she moved to Bournemouth to be closer to the sea and all of the watersports that come with it!
After stepping in to 'assist' when my son's Beaver Leader was moving away, I soon became the leader at Otford. My son is now in Scouts and my daughter is at Cubs but I continue to enjoy providing the scouting experience to our crazy smurfs.
I’ve been involved in scouting for over 30 years and had many roles but I am currently an explorer scout leader. I have always loved the outdoors especially hiking and many years ago spent a couple of weeks in the Lake District exploring the area from a campsite at the base of Helvellyn. More recently I have enjoyed wandering the Munros of Scotland and summiting Cairn Gorm and Ben Macdui along the way and I spent my holiday last summer in Snowdonia and summited Snowdon from two sides, walking 4 different paths, just because I could! Can’t wait to get back out there!
I was a Wolf Cub in Gibraltar in the mid-60's, but didn't get involved in Scouting again until my son joined Beavers in 1998. I slowly became more involved with helping out, and became a Group Executive Committee member in 2005, and shortly after that Group Secretary, which I did until 2014 when I was appointed District Commissioner. I have attended several jamborees in this country, as well as the last two WSJs, last two World Scout Moots and Roverway 2018.
I have been involved with Scouting since I was 8, moving through the sections, from Cubs to Scouts to Explorers and now Network. I was a Young Leader and am now an Assistant Cub Scout Leader at the 37th Bournemouth Scout Group, where I have been since I was 8. I am also involved with Bournemouth Network and am a Youth Representative on the District Executive Committee. I have had many fun and lasting experiences through Scouting, from Ziplining in North Wales to climbing the Alps in Austria and I hope Kilimanjaro will be another achievement and experience I can add to that list.
Scouter from Somerset, now living and working in Leicestershire.
I am currently a Cub leader in Maidstone East District but have been involved since I was 5. I have been an assistant Scout leader and Network member in Aberystwyth and am currently part of the Network/Active Support in Maidstone East. I have also spent time teaching Scouts and Cubs how to fish, kayak and the elements of back to basics camping.
